This hacienda was used to extract silver and gold from minerals through the patio amalgamation process, with the use of wind mills and hydraulic wheels. Its majestic ruins, located on the road to El Cerezo, old Real de Arriba tell us about the importance that this plant had; here we can also observe the minerals exploitation system and veins surfacing. This place can be visited only walking, either from Pachuca or from El Cerezo, because lack of maintenance has deteriorated the road to the point of being impassable for vehicles; we do not recommend visiting this site without an expert guide who knows it well because this is a risk area, there are several mine shafts with no protection.
This is the only plant of the mining district that still operating since more than 150 years ago. Its technology and productive capacity in the first half of the 20th century made this place a great symbol of modern silver mining. The following elements are still in good condition: buildings, machinery, equipment, tools and furniture, because this plant still working, although it does it in a smaller scale. It is located at the north part of Pachuca, and it can be observed from the lockout point located at the higher part of San Juan Pachuca mine. The mining company authorizes visits to groups of specialists in exceptional cases.
Its importance in mining history at a global level is due to Bartolomé de Medina who used the amalgamation system in this place, this system was commonly known as “patio processing” and it was used for low-grade ores; the use of this method, in most of the world, lasted almost 350 years. Between 1963 and 2003, this place was rebuilt after being practically destroyed, and it opened its doors as CRDyP Social, Cultural and Sports Club. The building currently belongs to the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo. Only two plates mentioning Medina and his systems give an account of the historic importance of this place.
