CULTURAL TOURISM IN SITES OF MINING HERITAGE
Is part of the "Nicolás Zavala" Cultural Center, located at the former miners’ hospital of Real del Monte and Pachuca Company, this building operated as hospital between 1907 and 1982. Surgical, x-ray, rehabilitation, and hospitalization equipment can be seen here, as well as pots and jars from the old apothecary and archive documents that are part of the museum. This site belongs as well to the AHMM, and it has a special area to hold fine arts workshops, exhibition halls, a small library for children and an auditorium. It is located at Calle del Hospital No. 10, downtown Real del Monte and opens from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 hrs.
This museum is part of the AHMMAC as well. Visits are guided by retired miners and miners’ daughters of Real del Monte. The tour goes through several open and close spaces from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries; these include a 450 meters long adit that connects this place to La Dificultad mine; the superintendence building has an exhibition of the mine history and explains steam engines operation and their use in mining. At the house of the superintendent, visitors can learn about the main working class movements of the district. The museum opens from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Is located at one of the entrances to Real del Monte, making it a must for visitors. Due to its historical importance and geographical location, the AHMMP, A.C. decided to open here an Interpretation Center where visitors can learn more about the steam era and the transition to the electricity era in mining work, while they gain knowledge of the this singular mine past and mining development and history in Pachuca, Real del Monte, El Cerezo, El Chico, Mineral de la Reforma and Huasca, towns integrating this mining district. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 hrs.
